The attic air hung thick and heavy, dust motes dancing in the single shaft of sunlight. Amelia tugged at the collar of her shirt, feeling a sudden heat prickle at the back of her neck. She’d been avoiding this, the dreaded family archive, for weeks. Now, with the anniversary of her father's passing looming, she felt compelled to delve.

She rummaged through a cardboard box labeled "Dad – Work Stuff." Her fingers, fidgety, sifted through old files and brochures. Then, tucked beneath a stack of invoices, she found it. A crisp, yellowed envelope, the words “Draft – Resignation Letter” scrawled in her father’s familiar hand. A tremor ran through her.

Curiosity, a sharp and insistent pang, won out. She unfolded the letter, her gaze tracing the carefully typed lines. The words spoke of disillusionment, of a yearning for something *more* than the monotonous routine of the accounting firm. Amelia felt a tightening in her chest, a phantom echo of the discontent that had clearly driven her father. She slammed the letter shut and, with a sudden burst of energy, began pulling every family photo off the walls.
