The silence of the house was oppressive. Mark couldn't sit still. He'd rearranged his books alphabetically, then by color, then by author’s last name. Nothing satisfied. He felt a need to break the monotony.

Then, a thunderous crash from next door. He practically ran to his window.

The enormous pine tree in the Miller’s yard had surrendered to the wind. It lay across the length of their driveway, blocking the entrance to their garage. A strange energy jolted through him, an almost pleasurable shock. He grabbed his phone. He needed to be involved.
