He stared at the computer screen, the words blurring before his eyes. The report needed finishing, the deadline was looming, but the task felt impossible. He deleted the sentences he'd just written, then slammed the laptop shut. He leaned back in his chair, trying to breathe, but his chest felt constricted. The air in his office was thick, stagnant. He rose, paced, and then found a letter on the floor, slipped under the door. He picked it up, and the handwritten address seemed to sting.
