The elevator ascended slowly, each floor a measured step towards the inevitable. Liam’s palms were slick with sweat. He felt as though he were trapped in a pressure cooker, the steam building with each passing moment. He had to explode.

He’d invested all his savings, all his hope, into a small artisanal coffee shop, a dream meticulously planned and executed. He had just finished the renovations, and he went to open the shop.

He discovered another coffee shop, only a few doors down. It was almost exactly the same. The same layout, the same menu, the same aesthetic, only a little more polished. His vision, stolen from him.
