The house seemed to shrink around Daniel. He was surrounded by silence, the echoes of his father’s laughter now only a whisper. He found the list buried deep within a drawer. “Learn to sail.” Daniel sighed. He had no interest in boats. He felt a deep, pervasive agitation.

He shoved the list aside and went outside, the air thick with summer heat. He walked to his car, and drove. He didn’t know where he was going. He just knew he had to *leave*. The open road beckoned, a vast, tempting expanse that promised… something. He drove until the sun began to dip below the horizon.
