The house felt too quiet to Mr. Garcia. The silence amplified the internal humming he was experiencing, making it feel more urgent. He stood in the middle of his living room, unsure of what to do next. He had already read the newspaper, done the crossword, and watched the morning news.

He walked over and switched on the radio, then immediately turned it off. He felt an urge to be on the move, to be doing something.

A small box arrived, wrapped in brown paper. It was from Sofia, a former student who’d always been a shy, quiet observer. Inside was a small, hand-stitched patchwork quilt. A note, stitched onto the corner, read: "Thank you for helping me find my place." Mr. Garcia picked up the quilt, running his fingers over the soft fabric, and a sense of calm washed over him.
