“I can’t sit still,” Sarah said, her voice tight. She was talking to her reflection in the bathroom mirror, her eyes darting around the small space. She'd been staring at it for the last hour. Across the way, Mr. and Mrs. Davies were hosting a lavish garden party. Music, laughter, and the clinking of glasses drifted over the fence.

Sarah had seen the invitations, the catered food, the overflowing champagne flutes. She knew the Davies; they always seemed so... ordinary. But their lives now felt anything but. She'd been working on a new novel for months and the words refused to come.

She splashed cold water on her face, trying to calm the jittery feeling. It didn't work. The reflection in the mirror seemed to mock her, a stranger with wild eyes.
