"Again?" Bethany heard herself ask, her voice brittle. She'd just finished a plate of scrambled eggs, but found herself drawn back to the kitchen, opening the fridge again. She had no appetite, the news of the university closing pressing down on her.

Her fingers drummed a rapid staccato against the countertop. She'd spent her entire adult life preparing for this, for her degree. Now, everything was crumbling. She slammed the refrigerator door shut.

She walked to the window, watching the campus life, students chatting, rushing to class, not aware of the approaching storm. She took a deep breath, fighting down a wave of nausea. A walk, she needed a walk.
