The university lecture felt interminable. Amelia fidgeted with her pen, tapping it against the desk until the sound grated on her own nerves. She kept glancing at the clock, each passing minute felt like an hour. Her thoughts chased each other like a storm in her mind.

A student in the front row suddenly turned around and looked at her. "Do you…?" he began, then hesitated. He pulled up his sleeve, revealing a small, oddly shaped birthmark. "Does yours look like this?"

Amelia, stunned, lifted her own sleeve. The mark was a perfect match. A shared sense of bewilderment filled the space between them.
