The library felt suffocating. The silence was oppressive, and the rows of books seemed to press in on Ethan. He found himself wandering the stacks, unable to focus on any single volume. His gaze kept drifting to the windows, searching for some release. He felt a constant pressure building within him.

He was abruptly interrupted by a cough from a nearby librarian. She gave him an odd look, then placed a hand to her head. "Do you ever get…?" she asked, her voice trailing off. She pointed to a patch of hair near her temple, which was unnaturally white.

Ethan's hand flew to the same spot on his head, where a similar patch was. A sudden jolt of recognition ran through him.
