The heat of the summer sun felt oppressive on Emily's skin, yet she still felt chilled. She’d been irritable and jumpy all day, unable to focus on anything. She felt the urge to flee, to run away from this place that she and Daniel called home. The silence in the house was deafening, amplified by the emptiness she felt inside.

She stood in the kitchen, aimlessly opening and closing cabinets. She found herself peering into the living room, where Daniel was working. She didn’t know why, she just did. And then she went over to his laptop. He didn’t care about security. She knew the password.

She’d never looked through his stuff before. But she opened the document folder. A file, called "The Girl Who Didn’t Know." She hesitated, then, she clicked.
