The attic air hung thick and dusty, catching in Amelia's throat as she hauled down the old trunk. It had been years since she'd rummaged through her childhood things, let alone her husband, David's. A familiar boredom settled over her. She just didn't know how to feel settled. She tugged at the stubborn lock, the metal groaning in protest. Inside, nestled amongst moth-eaten blankets, was a small, leather-bound notebook. David's handwriting, neat and familiar, greeted her on the first page. “Things to Do Before I Die.” An unexpected thrill shot through her.

Her fingers trembled as she flipped through the pages. The first entry: “Learn to speak fluent Italian.” Then, “See the Northern Lights.” Amelia felt a strange tightening in her chest. She had always thought she knew David. They had built a life, a comfortable rhythm. But this… this felt like peeking behind a curtain she hadn't known existed. The notebook was a map of unexplored territory.

She felt a sudden urge to get out, to *do* something. She slammed the trunk shut, the sound echoing in the silent attic. Grabbing her car keys, she knew she wasn’t sure where to go, but she was suddenly desperate to leave.
