He stared at his reflection in the bathroom mirror, the book lying open on the counter. The image that stared back at him was a stranger. His eyes, usually bright, were dull and bloodshot. The carefully styled hair, usually a source of pride, now seemed a grotesque adornment.

He felt a deep sense of wrongness, as though his identity had been stolen. He splashed cold water on his face, but the gesture offered no relief. The words on the page continued to swirl in his mind, each a testament to his stolen privacy.

He leaned against the sink, his legs suddenly weak. A profound sense of loss washed over him.
