The house seemed bigger, emptier, since her father had gone. Clara found herself gravitating towards the basement, the damp, cool air a strange comfort. There, in a corner, she discovered a box labeled "Clara's Treasures." Opening it felt like trespassing on sacred ground. Inside were all the things from her school days.

She picked up a pressed flower, its color long faded, a memento from a school field trip. She remembered the feeling of freedom, the smell of damp earth and wildflowers. Now, just the thought of it made her swallow hard. All of it brought the feeling of a missing piece.
