“But… why?” He asked, the question escaping his lips in a whisper. He’d poured his heart into organizing this event. The news, delivered over the phone, felt like a slap in the face. He felt his face heat up, a burning sensation in his cheeks.

He gripped the phone tighter, his knuckles white. He attempted to stay composed, but his voice cracked, betraying his distress. He just hung up the phone. He sat down on the floor, legs drawn up to his chest, and began rocking, alone in the middle of his living room.
