The silence of his apartment was broken only by the ticking of the clock. Liam sat on the couch, staring at the ceiling. The news about the new analyst, and their inflated salary, had plunged him into an abyss of self-doubt. He felt as though he’d been cheated.

He picked at the loose threads of his worn-out jeans, lost in thought. His phone lay on the coffee table, unanswered calls and unopened messages ignored.

The late-night news droned on in the background, but he couldn't concentrate. The world seemed to be spinning, and he felt utterly lost. The feeling of being adrift was all-consuming.
