Gemotions

Eliza walked into the lab, the usual hum of activity muted. Professor Bell, her guiding light for the last three years, was moving on. The news had left her feeling like the air had been sucked out of the room.

The familiar equipment seemed alien, the experiments she had been so excited about now feeling…pointless. She sat, alone, at her workstation, the fluorescence of the microscope a feeble light against the gathering darkness in her thoughts.

She ran a hand through her hair, the simple gesture somehow exhausting. The future stretched before her, a vast expanse of uncertainty and loneliness.
