The phone vibrated in Emily's hand, displaying the name of her therapist. She stared at it, the call unacknowledged. The words echoed in her mind: *Your father has another child.* Emily had felt a dull ache behind her eyes since the news broke. Now, it was a persistent throb.

She had spent the day wandering aimlessly through the city streets, the usual bustle and noise of the city seemed to amplify the silence inside her. The sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows, and the city lights started to come on, but she felt no solace in the approaching evening.

She finally picked up the phone and walked to the park, where she just sat on a bench and stared into the dark. The park was empty, the air was cool, the trees were swaying. She wrapped her arms around herself, seeking a warmth that was missing.
