"Another one?" Ava muttered under her breath, staring at the carefully worded letter. Her mother, on her deathbed, had finally confessed. A half-sibling, the product of a past she had always kept hidden. Ava felt a disconnect, as if the world was spinning around her without her.

She gripped the letter tightly, the paper crinkling under her touch. The air in the hospital room felt thick, heavy with unspoken words and regrets. Her gaze drifted to the window, where the sun cast long, melancholic shadows. The world outside felt far away, an untouchable reality she couldn't quite access.
