He stared out the kitchen window, the steam from his untouched mug of tea clouding the glass. It was a bleak morning, the sky the same dull grey as his mood. The discovery – a meticulously organized ledger detailing years of hidden transactions – had left him feeling hollowed out. She'd been hiding this from him for… how long?

His stomach felt knotted. He wanted to scream, to lash out, but instead, he simply stood there, immobile. The scent of breakfast, now cold on the counter, filled him with a sense of weariness.
