Gemotions

The plate of food sat untouched before him, the aroma of the roasted chicken unappealing. He pushed it away. He found himself staring at the screen, the cursor blinking, mocking his inability to create. He’d once loved writing, crafting stories and poems that had filled him with a sense of purpose. Now, the words escaped him. They wouldn’t come.

A phone call, the caller ID displaying an unknown number, interrupted his bleak contemplation. He answered, his voice flat. "Is this Mr. Davies?" a woman asked, her voice hesitant. When he confirmed his identity, she continued. “My name is Sarah. I… I believe we have something in common.” A long pause followed, filled only with the faint crackle of the connection.

He felt a tremor run through him, a strange mix of apprehension and recognition. "What makes you say that?" he asked, his voice barely a whisper. There was a beat, and then her reply. "The lab results. Yours. And mine."
