"More tea, dear?" Eleanor asked, her voice soft as the rustling leaves outside her sunroom window. Her fingers, gnarled with age, gently refilled her companion's cup. The afternoon sun bathed the room in a warm glow. They sat in comfortable silence, the shared space between them thick with years of accumulated intimacy.

A gentle rain began to fall, pattering against the glass of the window.

A particularly loud bang, followed by a series of shouts, intruded on the peace. The tranquil mood was abruptly broken.
