Gemotions

The low rumble of the television in the background was almost hypnotic. Amelia sprawled on the couch, her legs tangled in a worn fleece blanket her father had given her years ago. She'd spent so long feeling clenched, her shoulders tight, her jaw locked. Now, though, the tension was starting to melt away.

Her father entered the living room, carrying a tray with two mugs of hot chocolate. He handed one to her, then settled into his armchair.

"Anything good on?" he asked, his tone easy.

She shook her head, smiling slightly. "Doesn't matter. I'm just… here." The silence that followed wasn't awkward; it was comfortable. She took a slow sip, the warmth of the chocolate seeping into her chest.
