The old rocking chair creaked gently as Daniel sat in it on the porch, watching the fireflies dance across the lawn. The air was thick with the scent of honeysuckle. He hadn't realized how much he’d missed the simple things.

His mother came out, bringing him a glass of lemonade. He took it, the cold glass cool against his palm. She sat down beside him, not saying anything, just looking out at the night. The silence between them was not a burden, but a balm. He felt… at rest.
