Gemotions

The pilot felt the steady rhythm of the engines, the clear sky stretching before him. He knew the sky and the plane. It was his career. He was the captain of the aircraft. For years, he had flown the same route, the same plane, the same familiar team.

A meeting was called. A new route, a new plane, a new assignment. He was to train others. He felt the blood leave his face.

The horizon seemed to shrink, the sky a vast and unknowable expanse. He ran through the possibilities in his mind, trying to focus on something. The familiar cockpit now felt cramped and unfamiliar.
