The boarding process was slow but orderly. The overhead compartment closed with a definitive click. Across from George, a baby gurgled contentedly. George was on his way to meet his grandchild for the first time. He leaned back into the comfortable seat, the engine's quiet hum a lullaby. He thought about the family he was about to meet.

An announcement came, citing a maintenance issue. George blinked, a flicker of irritation crossing his face. He glanced at his watch. The delay was expected to be "significant." He adjusted his tie, suddenly feeling constricted.
