Gemotions

The hum of the servers, the chatter of the regulars, the clinking of glasses – all of it was a symphony that calmed her. She reached for the well-worn coffee mug, the ceramic surface a familiar comfort in her hand. This little cafe was her second home, a place of quiet belonging. Old Man Fitzwilliam, the owner, greeted her with a warm smile every morning. This routine was a constant, solid like the sturdy old wooden tables.

A younger man, unfamiliar and energetic, was behind the counter. "Fitzwilliam has retired," he announced, gesturing grandly. "I'm taking over!"

Her hand trembled slightly, and the mug slipped, hitting the table with a jarring crack. The clatter of it echoed in her ears. The comforting melody of the cafe felt out of tune.
