From the kitchen, Sarah could hear the familiar clatter of dishes. John, her husband, was always the first to do the washing up. The house smelled of lavender and freshly baked bread; she smiled to herself at the thought. This life they'd built, it felt permanent.

She saw him emerge, his face flushed. His phone was tucked in his pocket. He said something about needing to run a quick errand. He had an unusual, hurried tone.

A little frown appeared on her brow. She watched him walk down the driveway and get into the car. A feeling of unease that felt like a pebble in her shoe, began to grow.
