He stared at the school building, the same red brick facade he knew so well. The knot in his stomach began to loosen, ever so slightly. He remembered the cold fear he felt here as a child, the weight of the unknown. He now felt something different.

His daughter, Chloe, tugged at his hand. "Let's go, Dad!"

Mrs. Thompson, her teacher, greeted them with an open and friendly face. He watched Chloe's wide eyes, her easy smile as she entered the classroom. The past, he realised, need not define the present. He took a deep breath. He’d survived, and so would she.
