The morning sun warmed Elias's face as he stretched languidly in his doorway. He inhaled deeply, savoring the scent of brewing coffee that drifted from his kitchen. He scratched his stomach, the familiar, comforting ritual a prelude to his usual morning routine. He glanced at his car, a gleaming red sports car parked squarely on the concrete of his drive. He’d meticulously waxed it only yesterday, the polished surface reflecting back the bright sky. He smiled, pleased with the world.

He hummed a jaunty tune as he closed the door, heading back inside to pour himself a cup. He didn’t notice the flashing lights down the street, or the tow truck backing into his driveway. He was lost in the cozy cocoon of his home.
