The soft glow of the fireplace, the crackling of the logs, the plush comfort of the oversized armchair – these were the things that provided Grace with a sense of security. She loved the stillness, the quiet contemplation, the feeling of being utterly alone with her thoughts. Outside, the wind howled, but within, all was calm.

The back door slammed. It was her sister, Lily.

"Grace! The treehouse!" Lily shouted. "Do you remember when…"

Grace closed her eyes, her grip tightening on the book in her hands. "Lily, it was built perfectly."

"We almost fell out, Gracie."

"I remember it being a great engineering feat."
