He awoke to the sound of birdsong. Sunlight streamed into the bedroom, painting the room in soft hues. Daniel, stretching in the warm bed, was feeling the best he’d felt in years. He felt confident and he was happy. The future, for the first time in a long time, seemed bright.

A notification on his phone, an email from the medical center. He opened it. "Important document attached." He read the details, and the room began to tilt. The medical details were wrong, not his. A different life, a different fate.

He bolted upright, his heart racing. The birdsong, once so soothing, now grated on his nerves. The sun seemed blinding. The sense of well-being had vanished, replaced by a cold, unfamiliar dread.
