He whistled a cheerful tune as he walked through the bustling marketplace, the aroma of spices and freshly baked goods filling the air. The vibrant colors of the stalls, the chatter of the vendors, the general energy of the place made him feel invigorated. He purchased a warm pastry, the flaky crust dissolving in his mouth, the sweetness a pure joy.

At a nearby cafe he opened the journal on his phone. The article was finally out. His heart sank. The byline had been changed, a stranger’s name printed in its place.

His appetite vanished. The colors of the marketplace blurred, the sounds became a deafening cacophony. He crumpled the pastry in his hand, the sweet taste now bitter on his tongue. He wanted to scream.
