The gentle rocking of the hammock soothed him. He closed his eyes, the afternoon sun warming his face. Cicadas chirped in the nearby trees, a constant, familiar drone. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves, creating a whispery melody.

He heard her clear her throat, and opened his eyes. She was standing there, a slightly embarrassed expression on her face. She took a deep breath. “Ik ga met je mee naar de markt vandaag.”

He sat up and took her hand. A warm feeling bubbled up inside him.
