John stretched, the muscles in his back finally relaxing after a long day of paperwork. He leaned back in his comfortable chair, the leather creaking softly under his weight. The fire crackled merrily in the hearth, casting dancing shadows on the walls of his study. Outside, the wind howled, but inside, the world was at peace.

A sudden scratching noise, originating from above, jolted him. He froze, listening intently. Was it a squirrel? A rat? He slowly rose, feeling a little prickle of unease at the back of his neck.

He grabbed the sturdy oak walking stick that leaned against the wall and started towards the attic door. The wood felt firm and dependable in his grip. The stairs leading up were solid and seemed to support his weight with ease. He pushed the door open, the light from the study illuminating the dust-filled space above.

There, in the center of the attic, sat a stack of dusty boxes. Each had a different label. His eyes scanned the room, cataloguing its contents. Curiosity sparked in him.
