Gemotions

The morning sun streamed through the kitchen window, warming Amelia's face as she buttered her toast. Birds chirped outside, a cheerful soundtrack to her leisurely breakfast. She hummed along, a light, airy melody that matched the feeling blossoming in her chest. Reaching into the mailbox, she retrieved the usual assortment of bills and flyers. Nestled amongst them was a card, plain white, with no return address and no name on the front. Her brow furrowed, a flicker of surprise momentarily disrupting her peaceful routine.

Curiosity piqued, she carried the card back inside, placing it on the kitchen table. She resumed her breakfast, sipping her coffee with slow, deliberate movements. The card sat there, a silent, unassuming object, while her mind drifted to the upcoming book club meeting and the summer garden she was planning. After a time, she reached for the card, turning it over in her hands.
