“Well, this is a find,” Thomas declared, hefting the weighty tome. He'd stumbled upon it in a small, cluttered second-hand bookshop on a quiet side street. The shop owner, a kindly old man with spectacles perched on his nose, had merely smiled. Thomas carried it to his small apartment, the leather cover feeling reassuring.

He sat at his kitchen table, sunlight spilling across the surface. He finally opened the book, letting its pages fall open. A small card slid out. He picked it up, feeling a calmness fill him.
