Gemotions

The crisp autumn air bit at Thomas's cheeks as he settled into his favorite armchair on the porch. The world was hushed, the rustle of fallen leaves the only sound. A steaming mug of tea warmed his hands. He took a long, slow sip, savoring the warmth that spread through him. The distant hum of a car engine faded away.

Then, a frantic scrabbling and a guttural woof. Buddy again. Thomas frowned, already knowing the scene he would find.

He didn't even bother to rise, just closed his eyes tightly. He muttered under his breath, "Not again."
