The weight of the warm blanket, the soft glow of the fireplace, the silence of the house made Emily’s world a good place. She was tucked away, her world safe and sound. A book in her hands.

A crash of thunder from outside. The doorbell rang. She looked through the peephole to see a woman she did not recognize staring back. "I hope you remember me," the woman said.

Emily’s throat constricted. “I’m afraid I don’t,” she said, her voice barely audible. The feeling of warmth that had enveloped her quickly vanished. The world grew colder.
