Gemotions

The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the small office, a familiar comfort. Mark hummed along to the radio, expertly navigating his spreadsheet. He’d just finished compiling the quarterly reports, and things looked solid. Another promotion was surely on the horizon. He swiveled in his chair, stretching out his arms, feeling the satisfying pop in his shoulders. Life was predictable, and he liked it that way.

The meeting request pinged on his computer, a brief notification. "All Employees - Mandatory Meeting - Urgent." He barely glanced at it, assuming it was another efficiency seminar. He tapped the "Accept" button and went back to organizing his desk; a small, tidy world he controlled.

Later, the CEO's strained voice boomed from the auditorium's speaker system, and Mark felt a sudden, unwelcome chill. The air conditioning was on high, he noted, and he subtly adjusted his tie. He listened to the words, the phrases about strategic partnerships and new directions, but they didn’t compute. He felt a disconnect, a detachment from the words spilling from the screen.
