Gemotions

The air conditioning hummed, a gentle white noise that filled the small office. It was a sound that Samuel found to be especially grounding. He knew the layout of the office, the location of every stapler and every pen. He understood the pace of the work, and the ebb and flow of the day. He felt comfortable in the predictability of it.

"You were at Camp Eagle Crest?" Sarah asked from across the room. She was looking at a photo on her phone.

Samuel looked up. "Yeah, I was. How did you know?"

Sarah smiled. "My cousin was a counselor there. Said it was the best place."

The corners of Samuel's mouth turned up in a soft smile.
