He pulled up to the driveway, a low growl of the engine fading to a quiet murmur. The house stood bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun, a beacon after a long day. He felt the tension that clung to him begin to ease. The house, his wife, his dog… they created a world where things made sense. He looked forward to the familiar sight of the willow tree, its graceful branches swaying in the breeze. He had planted it himself, many years ago.

The world shattered.
