The heavy oak door clicked shut behind her, the sound echoing in the otherwise silent house. She leaned against it, listening for any sign of disturbance, but found none. A sigh escaped her lips as she walked through the dimly lit hallway, her footsteps muffled by the thick carpet. She flicked on the lights, each room revealing familiar comforts: the cozy fireplace, the overflowing bookshelves, the soft glow of the table lamps. She poured herself a glass of wine, the ruby liquid catching the light, and carried it with her as she explored the house.
