He felt the cool metal of the saxophone beneath his fingers. Mr. Johnson ran his fingers along the keys. The familiar weight of the instrument, and the feeling of making music, helped him center himself. The empty concert hall was his sanctuary.

A letter on the music stand. It was from David, one of his star pupils, a musician now in a professional orchestra. He remembered David's youthful enthusiasm, that same energy which brought the man to him. It contained an invitation to his next performance, a personal thank you. He felt a quiet joy.
