Thomas hummed a tuneless song as he watered his prize-winning tomatoes. The garden, a vibrant tapestry of green and red, was his sanctuary. He felt a deep sense of belonging here, among the earth and the plants. The sun warmed his back, the scent of damp soil filled his lungs, and he felt like he could stay there forever.

His neighbor, Mrs. Gable, leaned over the fence. "Thomas, dear, have you seen the new exhibition at the community center? It's really something!"

He smiled and returned her greeting.

"They have your pottery! Lovely things. The whole town is talking about them."

Thomas felt his stomach drop. His hands, usually steady, began to tremble slightly. The watering can slipped from his grasp, splashing cool water on his feet.
