Gemotions

The aroma of cinnamon and brewing coffee swirled around Amelia as she hummed, pulling a stack of freshly laundered towels from the linen closet. Sunlight poured into the kitchen, warming her skin as she arranged them neatly on the shelves. This was her favorite time of day.

She heard David’s footsteps on the stairs, then the squeak of the floorboards outside the spare room. Lately, he’d been spending an awful lot of time in there.

“Morning, sunshine,” he said, his voice laced with the sleepiness she loved. Amelia smiled, turning to him, her heart doing a little flutter. He reached for her, and she rested her head on his shoulder, letting him hold her.
