Gemotions

Thomas stretched languidly in his favorite armchair, the fire crackling merrily in the hearth. The rain hammered against the windows, a rhythmic counterpoint to the classical music playing softly in the background. He’d just finished a delicious meal and was lost in a good book. He knew nothing of a time capsule.

Suddenly, a dull thud echoed from the backyard. He frowned, setting his book aside. The storm must have knocked something loose. He pulled on a heavy coat and ventured outside. A patch of earth, recently disturbed, revealed a metal box.

He pried open the lid, revealing a collection of trinkets: a child's drawing, a dried wildflower, a small, worn teddy bear. Each object felt strangely familiar, yet unconnected. The world, the house, the moment, all seemed anchored, solid. He carefully closed the box, a slight smile playing on his lips.
