The aroma of cinnamon and brewing coffee swirled around Amelia as she hummed, pulling a stack of freshly laundered towels from the linen closet. Sunlight poured into the bathroom, warming the tiles beneath her bare feet. Their morning ritual, the same every day, had a rhythm she cherished: him showering, her folding, the quiet companionship that filled the air. She reached for the small, leather-bound notebook tucked amongst the toiletries, the one she’d always been curious about, but never dared to touch. It was tucked in the usual place, under the spare toothbrush.
