Gemotions

The book lay open on her lap, the pages barely ruffled by the soft breeze. Sunlight warmed her skin. Amelia closed her eyes, breathing deeply. The distant sounds of children playing, the gentle rustle of leaves – a symphony of everyday sounds.

A hesitant voice cut through her peaceful musings. It was young Timmy, the boy next door, fidgeting by the fence.

"Um, Miss Amelia? My mom… she, like, wanted to ask if… she could plant a sunflower in the corner of your yard?" He looked down at his shoes.

Amelia’s chest expanded with a simple joy. "Tell your mom absolutely. I'd love to see a sunflower. What a lovely idea." She felt a calm sensation bloom in her chest.
