He leaned back in his chair, the leather creaking pleasantly. The late afternoon sun painted long shadows across his office. He had just finished a particularly challenging project, and a sense of accomplishment warmed him from the inside out. He stretched his arms, feeling the satisfying pull in his muscles.

He navigated to the online journal that showcased student writing. He often looked at it to find inspiration for his own work. He idly clicked through the articles, a cup of coffee at his side, the familiar taste a comfort.

Then, there it was. His college essay. He recognized the opening line instantly, the phrasing, the cadence, everything. A jolt went through him, his hand instantly tightening on the coffee mug. A warmth in his chest turned to a chilly emptiness.
